Sergio Brown denied bond MAYWOOD, Ill. — Sergio Brown, the former NFL player charged in connection with the death of his mother, was denied bond Wednesday in his first court appearance.Brown, who has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and concealment of a dead body in connection with the death of his mother, 73-year-old Myrtle Simmons-Brown, is set to appear in court on Wednesday at the Maybrook Court House in Maywood.According to Maywood Police, Sergio Brown was taken into custody in San Diego, California, on Oct. 10, on a first-degree murder warrant after his mother was found unresponsive in a creek behind her home in mid-September. 'Takes your dream away': Over $100K worth of merchandise stolen after SUV crashes into shoe store CHICAGO — Over $100,000 worth of merchandise was stolen after an SUV crashed into a Near West Side shoe store early Wednesday morning.At around 4:30 a.m., officers responded to The Flee Club, located in the 2200 block of West Taylor Street.Authorities found an SUV, which crashed through the front of the store. Bear attacks security guard inside Colorado resort after entering through 'series of doors' DENVER (KDVR) – A bear attacked a security guard inside the kitchen of an Aspen resort earlier this week, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) department confirmed.Officials with CPW were dispatched to the St. Regis Aspen Resort late on Monday night, after a security guard investigating reports of the bear surprised the animal inside the hotel's kitchen, according to CPW. The bear reportedly responded by attacking the guard, scratching his back and knocking him to the ground.The man was able to flee and call 911, CPW said in a news release. (WPIX) – A customer was freed from a safety deposit room in Manhattan's Diamond District on Wednesday morning after getting locked inside the night before, according to authorities in New York City.The 23-year-old man had been accessing his safety deposit box at a facility operated by DGA Securities on Tuesday night when an employee closed the vault without realizing a customer was still inside, Deputy Assistant Chief John Sarrocco of the FDNY told reporters Wednesday. City Council to vote on purchasing former Salvation Army Downtown Center for $15M AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Austin City Council will consider purchasing the former Salvation Army Downtown Center at the Nov. 9 city council meeting to continue providing “critical” homeless services in the area, according to a memo. The former shelter is located downtown at Red River St and will cost the city just over $15 million if they decide to acquire the retail space, per the memo.  MORE: City of Austin could reopen downtown Salvation Army homeless shelter The Salvation Army Downtown Center opened in 1988 and was the only shelter downtown dedicated to serving single women experiencing homelessness.
