Aaron Rodgers has a torn left Achilles tendon, according to a person familiar with the diagnosis, and the quarterback likely will miss the rest of the New York Jets’ season. An MRI on Tuesday confirmed the four-time NFL MVP’s injury, the person told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because the team didn’t announce it. Coach Robert Saleh was scheduled to speak to reporters on a video call later Tuesday.NFL Network first reported Rodgers tore the Achilles tendon, confirming the Jets’ fears.“Concerned with his Achilles,” Saleh said after the Jets’ 22-16 overtime win over Buffalo on Monday night. “MRI is probably going to confirm what we think is going to happen, so prayers tonight. But it’s not good.”On his fourth regular-season snap in a Jets uniform, Rodgers tried to avoid a rushing Leonard Floyd, who wrapped up the quarterback and spun him down to the MetLife Stadium turf. Rodgers stood up after a few moments, looked over to the Jets’ sidelin...Julio Urias scrubbed from Dodger Stadium

The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be moving on from pitcher Julio Urías, who is facing a second domestic violence allegation in four years. When the Dodgers returned from a six-game road trip on Monday, Urías, who is currently on administrative leave, had been largely scrubbed from Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Times reports. The veteran pitcher's clubhouse locker was removed and two large murals featuring Urías at the entrances to left and right field were covered or painted over.No Urías apparel could be found at team stores and kiosks, the L.A. Times reports.“It’s sad on every level,” manager Dave Roberts told reporters before Monday night’s game against the San Diego Padres, adding that the decision to remove Urias’ locker was “an organizational thing.”Urías, 27, was arrested on Sunday, Sept. 3, by officers with the Exposition Park Department of Public Safety and booked for an alleged violation of Penal Code 273.5 which involves “corporal injury” to a spouse or domestic partner....McCarthy directs House committees to open Biden impeachment inquiry

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said he will seek to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Biden based on the House GOP’s investigations of his family's foreign business dealings and the prosecution of his son Hunter Biden.“Today, I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden,” McCarthy said.McCarthy said the probe will be led by House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) in coordination with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.), who have been leading the investigations.“I do not make this decision lightly. And regardless of your party, or who you voted for these facts should concern all Americans,” McCarthy said.He did not say whether the full House would hold a vote on opening an inquiry. Such a vote could be tricky in the face of resistance from some moderates.McCarthy’s formal endorsement of impeac...CSU workers rally for pay hike outside board's tuition increase vote

Fall may be nearly here, but "hot labor summer" is not done yet. On Tuesday, California State University employees are planning to rally ahead of a Long Beach meeting of the CSU Board of Trustees, who are finalizing a plan to raise tuition 6% annually for five years, according to the CSU Labor Coalition. The coalition, a collection of labor unions that together represent almost 60,000 workers, is supporting its members amid contract negotiations for multiple unions."At the heart of negotiations is the demand for the CSU to improve wages significantly and restore step increases, which were unilaterally removed by CSU Trustees in 1996," the coalition said in a news release. "Since then, CSU workers have faced a wage crisis, falling further behind their peers with no path of moving up from the bottom of their salary scale."System officials, meanwhile, say the group of 23 schools faces a $1.5 billion funding gap.Steve Relyea, executive vice chancellor and CFO, said in a media call Wednes...Escaped inmate Danelo Cavalcante stole gun and remains at large, police say

Escaped murderer Danelo Souza Cavalcante stole a rifle from a garage and fled a homeowner's gunfire, authorities said Tuesday as police closed roads in suburban Philadelphia, told residents to lock their doors and set up a new search area in the nearly 2-week-old manhunt.Cavalcante entered the open garage late Monday in the search area northwest of Philadelphia, stole a .22-caliber rifle and ammunition, and fled when the homeowner who was in the garage drew a pistol and shot at him several times, Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said at a news conference Tuesday morning. The developments came in the days after Cavalcante slipped out of an earlier search area to the south in Chester County, stole a dairy delivery truck, and went to the homes of onetime work associates in what police say is Cavalcante's desperate quest for help.About 500 law enforcement personnel are now searching or guarding an 8- to 10-square mile area in a different part of Chester County, near South...Lionel Richie Faces the Elements

By LISA MASCARO and FARNOUSH AMIRI (Associated Press)WASHINGTON (AP) — Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Tuesday he is directing a House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden over his family’s business dealings, launching historic proceedings ahead of the 2024 election.McCarthy said the House Oversight Committee’s investigation so far has found a “culture of corruption” around the Biden family as Republicans probe the business dealings of Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, from before the Democratic president took office. “These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption, and they warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives,” McCarthy, R-Calif., said outside the speaker’s office at the Capitol. “That’s why today I am directing our House committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.”The announcement comes as the Republican leader ...Ashton Kutcher reminded of testimony in Los Altos woman’s murder by Danny Masterson accuser

The fall-out continues over Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis’ defense of Danny Masterson, along with outrage the couple sparked with a video they posted in which they tried to apologize for writing glowing character letters ahead of their friend’s sentencing last week to 30 years to life after being convicted of two of three counts of rape. The verdict of the internet is that Kutcher and Kunis failed to show genuine remorse in their allegedly “lawyered” apology video, or authentic concern about “re-traumatizing” Masterson’s victims by calling him their “role model” and by appearing to minimize one key aspect of the women’s testimony — that their friend drugged them before attacking them.It was “incredibly insulting and hurtful,” one of Masterson’s victims said to a journalist. Another accuser, Chrissie Carnell Bixler, went further, going on the offensive and telling Kutcher on Instagram Story: “You...UC regents meeting to include discussion of Cal’s move into the ACC (which could be costly for UCLA)

The University of California regents will discuss Cal’s move into the Atlantic Coast Conference next week on UCLA’s campus. It’s an appropriate location given that the governing board is expected to consider whether to impose a subsidy on the Bruins — the so-called Berkeley tax, or Cal-imony.The agenda for the Sept. 21 meeting describes the session in this manner: “Discussion: UC Berkeley Atlantic Coast Conference Membership.”Because the session is closed to the public, the regents won’t vote on whether to eventually force UCLA to turn a portion of its Big Ten jackpot into an annual “contribution” to Cal’s athletic department. But sources believe it will be discussed in detail. The controversial issue first surfaced last summer, after UCLA announced it would enter the Big Ten in 2024 (along with USC) and leave its sister campus behind.Expecting the depleted Pac-12 to lose significant media revenue without the Los Angeles mark...He sent a selfie from a Colorado summit, and then disappeared

The cause of death was said to be accidental drowning. The day he disappeared, O’Brien left the Echo Basin campsite he was sharing with his girlfriend for a 7½-mile hike up Hesperus Mountain, a route he was reportedly familiar with. About 4½ hours later, around 6:30 p.m., he shared a photo from the 13,238-foot summit. When he hadn’t returned by 12:30 a.m., his girlfriend notified the sheriff’s office. After a week of extensive searching, the operation was put in “limited continuous mode,” meaning the official search-and-rescue crew wouldn’t be called o...Latest news
