Coaldale council finalize budget recommendations

By Heather CameronSouthern Alberta NewspapersLocal Journalism Initiative ReporterOn December 7, 2023, Town of Coaldale Council met for 2024 budget deliberations and at the conclusion of deliberations, Council looked at what the budget looked like as presented. From there, Kyle Beauchamp, Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Coaldale, stated that the formal budget would be presented for approval for Council on Monday, December 11, 2023.Beauchamp said that the Town is making the Gem of the West Museum funding somewhat contingent on the Gem of the West’s future presentation in the fall. Beauchamp said that the contingent items on the R.C.M.P. are also present, but the arena expansion is being removed from consideration along with the two items that needed to be adjusted from the budget as proposed. The first option, Beauchamp said, includes a flat fee increase for water and storm and a 10 percent year-over-year for the water and the sewer. On average, Beauchamp said, this does equate to a five percent increase for the next three years. The Town’s water cost, Beauchamp said, is designed to allocate the future water cost, as it is expected to increase by two percent next year and have a three percent surcharge on top of it from the Water Commission. (NEWS10) - Stress around the holidays can make people more susceptible to getting sick and as research shows, women are more likely to feel stressed than men this time of year.At least half of all women in the U.S. report higher levels of stress during the holidays, according to the Office on Women’s Health, which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.The American Psychological Association conducted a study that revealed only 27% of women who participated, say they are able to relax over the holidays, compared to 41% of men. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A St. Louis County man is behind bars after he allegedly crashed a stolen car during a high-speed pursuit over the weekend.Prosecutors have charged Micah Loggins, 23, with three felonies in connection with the investigation. The pursuit happened Sunday after authorities received a tip that linked Loggins to several recent vehicle thefts and burglaries at car dealerships. According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, detectives responded to an apartment building in north St. Louis County and noticed a BMW vehicle with a fake Nebraska license plate. The vehicle was running, and Loggins was reportedly in the driver's seat. EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. -- The Illinois State Police arrested 43 people in East St. Louis and nearby areas over three days during Operation Silent Night. They focused on high-crime areas from December 7 to 9. Several people arrested face multiple felonies, with 68 total criminal charges from the anti-crime initiative.Police highlighted three incidents in a statement to the media. On December 7, officers stopped a car and found over a quarter of a pound of suspected illegal marijuana. On December 9, a chase ended with a suspect crashing into an abandoned house after ramming a police car. On December 10, officers found a loaded gun in a car during a traffic stop. Dozens of protesters calling for a cease-fire in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza blocked a portion of the 110 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles Wednesday morning. Sky5 was over the scene near 3rd Street around 9:30 a.m., where protesters holding signs stood and sat on the freeway, blocking all southbound traffic. 73-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Pedestrian Accident near Camden AvenueSAN JOSE, CA (December 13, 2023) – A pedestrian crash on Almaden Expressway and Camden Avenue claimed the life of Padmanbhan Krishnan Friday night. The incident occurred at approximately 5:05 p.m.According to sources, a teenager operating a red 2009 Toyota sedan hit a man walking in the street. The driver promptly halted and stayed at the scene.
