PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Walter C. Cole, better known as the iconic drag queen who performed for decades as Darcelle XV, has died of natural causes in Portland, Oregon. Cole was 92.Darcelle, who died Thursday, was crowned the world’s oldest working drag performer in 2016 by the Guinness Book of World Records and was regaling audiences until the very end.As a performer, Darcelle was known for hosting the longest-running drag show on the U.S. West Coast. MONTREAL — Short-term rental company Airbnb said Friday it would pull listings in Quebec that don’t have a permit from the provincial government, eight days after a fatal fire destroyed a historic Old Montreal building that housed illegal rentals.Four bodies have so far been pulled from the building and three people remain missing in the rubble of Édifice William-Watson-Ogilvie, constructed in 1890. Some of those missing had rented their accommodations on Airbnb. In 2018, Airbnb-style short-term rentals were made illegal in the area where the building is located.In a letter Friday to Quebec Tourism Minister Caroline Proulx, Airbnb said that it would remove listings across the province that don’t have a permit from the agency that manages the province’s tourist accommodation act. COOK COUNTY, Ill. — A Lyons Township mother is charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment after her 19-month-old son was found dead inside his crib last October.Jamie Hannion, 22, is charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of felonyendangering the life and health of a child resulting in death.The Cook County Sheriff's Office said the child was severely malnourished and unresponsive when found on Oct. 17 inside a home on the 800 block of Victory Lane in unincorporated Lyons Township. Deputies noted that the toddler was already in the early stages of rigor mortis. Detectives learned that Hannion left her son in the care of a relative, who discovered the boy and alerted the police. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Twenty-one homicides have occurred in Austin so far this year. Six of them have happened in the last 10 days. MAP: Where have Austin’s homicides occurred in 2023? Last year, 71 homicides were reported, down from a record-high 88 in 2021.According to police data compiled by KXAN, thus far in 2023, homicide numbers are at a similar point to 2022 and 2021.The recent stretch of homicides started on March 14 and ended on March 23. They were not related - and most were isolated, meaning they were not random - according to the Austin Police Department (APD).They also occurred in all different parts of the city, and each in a separate City Council District.In 2022, there were three instances where six homicides occurred in 10 days.
