Veteran East Palo Alto cop promoted to police chief EAST PALO ALTO – A 23-year veteran of the East Palo Alto Police Department is taking over as top cop.Jeff Liu, the interim police chief, was promoted to police chief on April 14, the city said in a statement. His selection was announced at a City Council meeting on April 18.Liu began his law enforcement career in East Palo Alto as an officer in September 2000. He was promoted to sergeant in January 2009 and commander in March 2015.
